I know some old race cars in Japan had exposed oil coolers...but they also had well curated tracks that were free of oil-line-popping debris like rock chips, and a spare engine at the ready. Most people driving on the street don’t have that stuff.
Now today it’s kind-of becoming a signature of a ‘Zero Fucks Given’ build. I kinda don’t get it? I mean, sure. You don’t have to give no fucks about being one rock chip away from a dangerous drop in oil pressure that will lead to spun bearings and a sized engine if not taken care of. But how is that good? And why is that a thing you want the world to know about?

The problem with the car in above photo is that it’s being driven by a stance douche. They don’t have any sense of form (let’s not even get into function).

I guess they give no fucks about spun bearings or sized engines. Besides that exposed oil cooler and lines are at least worth 20 or 30 hp.

Radiators on the fronts of cars aren’t a new thing. I’m confused by your concern.

I just don’t like the way it looks. it says to me “screw you designers! have some hose!”

Fits right into the pantheon of conspicuous stupidity?

Not a fan either... here, pretty much only bosozoku with classic cars do that... and they are not exactly a reference in term of style lol

Somtimes I wonder if their even conected.

And I don’t like stance either.

Well, that photo seems to have some overt wide angle. Thats not to say the cables probably aren’t overkill for being that far out. But that isn’t representative of all the “exterior oil cooler” fans.

Ugh. This is just an extension of the stance concept, where mechanical integrity plays second (or third, maybe fourth) fiddle to style. For giving no fucks, they sure gave a lot of them to using 3 feet too much hose and running the lines through the damn headlight aperture for no reason. I get that running them through the headlight may have been the shortest route from A to B on a Hakosuka racing in period, especially if the cooler was hastily installed after the team perhaps figured out they had an oil temp problem on a race weekend. It is not on any street car. Most of the cars now running exposed coolers for style are millimeters away from ripping their oil pans off on Bott’s Dots anyway, so they’ll blow the engine for stupid reasons no matter what.

Eh, it’s just the next evolution of stancebroitude.
Step one: buy expensive-ass wheels that are the wrong size for the car, then stretch the shit out of tires that are the wrong size for the wheels, and fuck up the alignment so those wheels and tires “fit” the car.
When that gets boring, slap an oil cooler on the front, and oh hey lets run some expensive high grade braided stainless tubing with AN fittings out the hole for one of the high beams, and don’t forget to hold it together with zip ties, for teh lulz!

At worst, the hose is a bit long.
Is this whinge day on oppo or something?

Nowadays “Zero Fucks Given” builds have some of the most care and effort put into making them look like shit.

its called bosozoku, its a style not a “function follows form thing” so if you hate stance or other kinds of “fashion” then bosozoku will defiantly hurt your brain... Oh and just to completely murder your brain go ahead and google image Dekotora and see if you don’t spew milk from all your holes

That...seems counterproductive...

It's the new rat rod. Once rat rods went over the top these people stepped in to take their place.

Few of the many street cars had the hoses actually connect to anything.

I’m sure some earlier generations of enthusiasts thought the same thing when these were on the streets.

It’s been a “thing” with the Japanese bosozoku scene for decades, just now starting to get popular globally thanks to the interwebs. Still dumb though.
